Paint and Wallpaper Idea

Saturday, 18. September 2010

I thought this wall treatment would look good in a nursery or a little girl’s room. I would do this on an accent wall or maybe all the way around the room under chair rail molding.  All I did was paint my wall color then I made the flowers from wallpaper.  I purchased an outdated wallpaper book from Wallpaper Warehouse for $2.00.  I chose three different wallpapers for the petals and three different wallpapers for the stems and leaves.  I drew my pattern, cut them out, wet them and stuck them on the wall.  Very quick and easy.

The wallpaper store only had a book of nursery wallpaper for sale.  I keep going back hoping that they will have something more grownup and modern so I can try different designs.  It would be fun to do birds, branches, or something graphic (circles, squares) in a black damask or metallic grass cloth.  As soon as I get a new book I’ll post some more ideas.

Decorative Molding

Wednesday, 25. August 2010

I love the creative use of molding in this master bedroom.  I saw this room in a model home a while ago.  I have been wanting to do this molding treatment behind my bed and even bought some molding and did the math to get even squares but at the last minute, I decided I wanted a brick accent wall instead.  I still might try it somewhere though.  If and when I do, I’ll show step-by-step instructions.

3-D Accent Wall

Another picture from the Parade of Homes.  I love this accent wall.  It adds so much to the room.  It brings texture, warm, rich color and just the right dash of contemporary style.

Teal Accent Wall Idea

Monday, 2. August 2010

Okay, I know this is not a wall.  We are just going to pretend it is a full wall.  I have in mind to dedicate one wall in my house to share ideas like this but on a full scale.  I want to do a small wall in my office but the lighting is not so good in there.  I’ll figure something out, but in the mean time I did a few sample boards that need a little imagination for the full scale effect.

The teal is Totally Teal by Glidden and the gold is Golden Candlesticks by Ralph Lauren.  I painted the teal and let it dry.  I then dipped different size glasses in the gold paint, blotted and then “stamped” the wall.  Quick, easy and fun.  I know the circles are not perfect but I think that just adds to the character.

Purple Accent Wall

Friday, 23. July 2010

God knows I love color, and I’m not afraid to use it.   Just when I think my family and friends understand that I have no color fear, I still manage to shock them.  Take this purple for instance.  Now to me saying, “I’m thinking of  doing a purple feature wall.” is as natural as saying, “I think I’ll brush my teeth today”.  But, try saying that to the average person and you’ll get “PURPLE!???  You’re joking right?”   I have received that same reaction over and over, “BLACK!??,  PINK!??, “CHARTEUSE!??? ”  At least now I get a “Oh, she’s artistic”, which I think is code for “LUNAITIC!”  Well, at least I only wield a paintbrush.

Actually, when people see the whole room and how it’s put together.  They usually like it.  Everything else in this bathroom was white except the vanity and a couple of accessories which were wood.  The overall effect was modern and Zen.  Not everyone’s cup of tea but to me trying new and different things  is most of the fun in decorating.
