New Curtains For My Living Room
Wednesday, 27. June 2012
I have made quite a few different pairs of curtains for my living room. They have all been pretty. But they have all been a little plain. I decided my living room needed a little more pattern so I dragged took my husband to the fabric store. We both loved the Frenchy pattern on this fabric.
We thought it fit in with the color scheme of the room and the subtle travel theme we have going on in here.
I usually buy five yards of fabric when I make curtains. I didn’t do that this time though. This fabric was a little pricey even with a 40% off sale. So, since the curtains are only decorative, I decided to buy 2 1/2 yards and make dummy panels. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t consider myself a talented seamstress. That is why I am not giving a tutorial. I will just say that since I have drapery clips, all I had to do is sew straight lines, easy peasy
. Thanks for stopping by!

Taunnie, that fabric print looks like a lot of fun. I know what you mean about sewing like an expert. I use to sew constantly many years ago and now when I get my machine out I wonder how I did it. If you have a swatch of the fabric, i would love to see it up close.

Hi Charisse, I have about a yard of fabric leftover so I took a close-up and added it into the post. I am planning to find a couple of chairs to recover.

Oh, thank you for putting a swatch of the fabric on here. I knew I was going to love the pattern repeat. This fabric will look nice with the check you used on the dining room chairs. Great Job! Have a great weekend. Thank you for all the Olioboard love too.

Hi,
I am visiting again since I added you to must “must visit list.” I love the French-themed pattern of the material you selected for your new decorative curtain panels. I know EXACTLY what you mean about outrageous prices, even with 40% off! I would love a fabric like yours or something similar to stich up a simple shower curtain but I’m too cheap to buy the necessary yardage. Sigh. One suggestion – if you could cut a plain white sheet to size for each panel and hang it behind from the same curtain rings, the sun would not show through the curtain panels so much and the pattern will really pop in your day-time photos. Doing this will also greatly extend the life of your curtain panels. They don’t have to be fancy, just use sheets – cheapest yardage I’ve found.

Hi Jan, thanks for the suggestion to use the sheets to line the curtains. I had thought about the panels fading from the sun but the sun doesn’t shine much in my living room (the window faces East), none-the-less, I should protect my investment
. I have also thought about using a sheet as a cutain panel in my family room. I currently am using a drop cloth as a curtain but it is a little plain. You are right, there are some really great bargins on sheets. I will keep an eye out. Thanks again!
