Kitchen Cabinet Progress

Wednesday, 29. February 2012

I was done painting the bottom cabinets last week.  I planned to post pictures last Friday or maybe Saturday but…  I couldn’t get the kitchen clean, then I got it clean but couldn’t keep it clean enough to take pictures.  I was finally able to get everyone out of the house long enough to get the kitchen clean and then keep it clean for pictures.  I had a great photo shoot and was excited to look at the pictures on the computer.  I went to take the memory card out of my new camera and it wasn’t there (Grrrrr!)  I thought “No problem, I’ll just get the memory card out of the old camera and take some more pictures”".  Well, I dug out the old camera and the memory card was missing from that one too.  Yes, I have a memory card thief on the loose.  I am suspecting Mr. Mischief, my three-year old.  Rather than tear the house apart looking for the lost cards, I went ahead and took some pictures with my phone because I figured that I wouldn’t have a chance to have a clean kitchen for another week (it’s a short week this week at school).

I was just planning to paint and glaze the lower cabinets green but Handy Hubby and I love it so much we decided to paint the uppers too.  I will go buy a new memory card and take some decent pictures when I am finished with the whole kitchen :-) .

Glazing Techniques

Here is a video I made…

Sometimes it is easier to see and do rather than read and do, that is why I made this video.  I hope it is easy to follow.  I don’t watch videos often and this is the first one I have made.  It was really fun making it with my Handy Hubby.  I need to thank him for hours and hours of filming, and editing.  Thank you so much Honey!  I am planning to more videos in the future.  If there is something you’d like to see let me know.

Salmon with Avocado, Mango Salad

Sunday, 26. February 2012

So, this is pretty much what I eat now.  I have my little salmon fillet (Gorton’s) and my 1/2 cup of quinoa every night.  I try to keep it from getting boring by being creative with the veggies (I know, I know, mangos and avocados aren’t veggies).  Anyway, I thought it looked pretty arranged this way.  I found that my meals feel more satisfying when I spend a couple of minutes making it look appealing.   At least it helps me feel less deprived when the rest of the family is eating lasagna (my favorite).

Sleek and Stylish Playroom

Saturday, 25. February 2012

For this week’s “Inspiration” I want to share this playroom.  This playroom is in the basement of the Sleek and Stylish home.  It is nestled under the stairs.  It is just off the basement family room.  I think this is such a great set-up.  The kids can be nearby, but still in their own place, doing their own thing.

I would convert the area under my stairs from storage to a playroom in a heartbeat if I lived in a traditional two-story house.  I live in a tri-level so unfortunately, I don’t have enough room under the stairs.

I love this cute little Exit sign.  I think it is the perfect touch.  Thanks for stopping by.  Next week I will finish up the Sleek and Stylish house with the master bedroom suite.  It’s amazing!

Eclectic Kitchen

Friday, 24. February 2012

This is the ultra modern kitchen I was working on over at Olioboard (just for fun).  I know, it’s not ultra modern is it?  It started out that way but it didn’t stay that way.  I just like an eclectic look I guess.  Most of  the boards I do are fairly eclectic.  I like to use the best of all the styles.  I think mixing makes a stronger statement than just sticking to one style (but that’s just me).  Consider the new transitional style.  Transitional is the best of traditional and contemporary like wing back and Barcelona chairs.  Minus the not-so-good like floral chintz and shag carpeting.  I have nothing against a strict modern, cottage, traditional, or whatever room.  I love to do those for other people but for me, eclectic is the ticket ;-) .
