I’ve Been Featured!

Wednesday, 31. August 2011

Ever since I started blogging I have dreamt of having something featured on Knock of Decor and today my dream has come true.  I have to thank my husband for making this possible for me.  Thanks again Honey, love you!  I have always been a “Get the Look for Less” kind of gal.  I’m sorry but I am saving my money to line the pockets of an Ivy League College for my kids not a fancy furniture store.  So, I often head over to Knock of Decor to see what other like-minded people are doing.  You can browse for inspiration by store or you can search for a specific object.  When you find what you are looking for you will find tutorials so you can make the object of your love.  Don’t let the price tag deter you from having what you see in a catalog in your home.  With Knock of Decor and a little elbow grease your dream can become a reality too.

I have been looking for a globe to put in my living room for about a year now.  I’ve looked and looked through many a thrift shop.  I have found globes but none of them have been just right.  They have either been the wrong coloring, the wrong size, to beat up, or too expensive.  I started looking online for a globe but they were all more than I was willing to spend (between $75.00-$300.00).  Yesterday I was in my favorite thrift store (I was supposed to be dropping off only but of course I gave in to temptation) and I spied this little beauty.  I hurried over to it before anyone else spotted it and checked the price.  They were only asking $15.00!

I couldn’t get it into my cart and to check out fast enough.  Partly because I was so excited and partly because I was a little afraid that they were going to realize that the $15.00 was much too  low a price to be asking for a globe that is nearly pristine condition.

Here is a picture of how it looks in the room.  The globe and the world map picture look like they were made for each other don’t you think?  It’s a keeper for sure.  I guess the lesson I learned is to be patient and persistent.  All good things come to those who wait.

Yellow and Grey Living Room

Saturday, 27. August 2011

This week’s Inspiration is from yet another Ivory Home.  The decor is courtesy of  their brilliant team of designers.  This is home 18 from the 2011 Salt Lake Parade of Homes.  I love the look and feel of this room.  I think it is a good example of a transitional room.

Wikipedia defines transitional as an “updated classic or classic with a modern twist”. I think the furniture, accessories and color palette all fit the bill  in this room.

Happy weekend and happy decorating everyone!

Striped Bedroom

For this week’s design board I wanted to use neutrals but I still wanted a room with a little kick.  If you want to put together a board or two, hop on over to Olioboard.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Beachy Table

Wednesday, 24. August 2011

I picked up these “New to Me” plates at my local thrift shop at the beginning of Summer.  They have just been sitting patiently in my china hutch waiting for me to come up with just the right setting for them.

These plates are marked “Studio Nova” Largo Jade.

The pale jade color made me think of a tropical beach.

So, I paired the plates up with our shell collection.  We bring back a few new shells each year when we visit family up in Seaside Oregon.

I merged another idea I’ve had in mind for a while now, “Fire and Ice”.

Unfortunately, you couldn’t really see the “ice” when the candles were lit. This is the only candlelight picture that turned out for me.  Oh well, I still had fun.  Hope you all are having fun and enjoying the last little sliver of summer.  Please stop by Between Naps on the Porch to see some truly amazing tablescapes.
