God knows I love color, and I’m not afraid to use it. Just when I think my family and friends understand that I have no color fear, I still manage to shock them. Take this purple for instance. Now to me saying, “I’m thinking of doing a purple feature wall.” is as natural as saying, “I think I’ll brush my teeth today”. But, try saying that to the average person and you’ll get “PURPLE!??? You’re joking right?” I have received that same reaction over and over, “BLACK!??, PINK!??, “CHARTEUSE!??? ” At least now I get a “Oh, she’s artistic”, which I think is code for “LUNAITIC!” Well, at least I only wield a paintbrush.
Actually, when people see the whole room and how it’s put together. They usually like it. Everything else in this bathroom was white except the vanity and a couple of accessories which were wood. The overall effect was modern and Zen. Not everyone’s cup of tea but to me trying new and different things is most of the fun in decorating.

Better Homes and Gardens emailed me these ideas today. They have some really great ideas. I’ve been inspired to experiment a little more with a cabinet door I have leftover from when we did our kitchen. Here’s the link…

I don’t know if you’d call our house a fixer-upper or not. It was dated to be sure. Dated wallpaper, pastel paint, lace and ruffles on every window, yikes. It’s been three years and we are still updating. This year we decided to uncover the fireplace the pervious owners had dry walled over. We decided to go with a man-made stone and slate. The beaded board on the sides is going to be the back of built-in bookshelves. We are almost done. We need to add a mantel and build the bookshelves. I suppose that I should be thankful that the old fireplace was removed and the firebox walled over so we could start fresh and pick our own finishes. Check out pictures of the process on my husband’s blog…

Okay, this is the last cabinet idea for a while. I had fun experimenting but I want to go ahead with the white paint. The paint on this cabinet looks like it is still red but it is a deep rusty, coppery orange. The bird and the branch are stickers I picked up at Target.

Well, the red was starting to get a little boring. I have a whole closet full of paint samples, leftover paint, and some paint that I was going to use but my plans changed and the paint got shelved. So, I decided to put the odds and ends to work.

I think this is my favorite so far. I like the gray with the cream. Elegant and soothing. It’s got just enough kick to make things interesting but not overpowering.
